October is always a fun month for me. Halloween is my second favorite holiday besides the obvious choice. I don't wait for the big night though to have fun. I spend the month huddled on my couch watching scary movie after scary movie.

Of course I have to watch a comedy or something irreverent before going to bed. Otherwise I have weird dreams. Then I fall asleep too early the next day to watch more scary movies.

Why am I oversharing? Because I have another favorite for you this month. Schools aren't really big on celebrating Halloween and I really miss all the fun I remember from my childhood. Picking out the costumes, the parades, and endless candy. It was awesome.

I found a way around I t though. I don't celebrate Halloween, I celebrate Pumpkin Day!

Two weeks before the 31st I send home a request for parents to send in a Pumpkin of any size. Just as long as their child can carry it in by themselves. I challenge the students to pick their favorite book characters and decorate their pumpkins to represent their character. They come up with some super funny pumpkins, let me tell you!

We also do the usual of weighing, measuring, and floating our pumpkins. Then we predict the  number of seeds that our pumpkin is holding. When we cut them open and count the seeds it is a battle to keep them from reaching in, squealing, and then flapping their hands back and forth spewing pumpkin goo on everyone. EVERY year. Sigh.

I thought I would share some of our October Fun with you. Here is a little packet of freebies so you can play along with Pumpkin Day too!

Fall Favorites and Freebies-The Primary Life

I'm Jonna from The Primary Life and so excited to share my Fall Favorites and Freebies  with you!
These are just of few of my favorite fall books that I read with my kinders.

Every month we have a new song that we sing during our morning meeting.  We sing this one to the tune of  "My Darling Clementine". I put in on chart paper and we also use it as a shared writing activity-by covering up some of the words with sticky notes.  Then students come and try to spell the word.

What is Fall without football? Well we are All Vol in my household! Volunteer football is definitely a Fall favorite.

One of my other favorite school activities is the Disguise-a-Turkey project. These are just a few of the books that I read to my students  for this project.

Fall Favorites and Freebies- The Elementary Darling

Happy Fall Y'all! It's Erin from The Elementary Darling!

This month we are sharing our Fall favorites and a Freebie every day!

I LOVE these books. Fall is a great time for books, and these are a few of my favorites.

I am lucky enough to be a 1:1 iPad classroom and these are some of the apps we will use this fall! Below I will give you some examples of how you can use these great  FREE apps!

Popplet- Popplet is a great app and it has so many uses. The students could create popplets on fall words or books. They could identify the main idea and details or story elements of the fabulous stories above.

Book Creator Free- This would be great for a fall themed book or to review a book that you read to the students.

Kidspiration Lite- Kidspiration is great for organizers of many kinds! There are cute pumpkin pictures that you could use to make a venn diagrams, charts, or word webs.

Alphabet Organizer- Alphabet organizer is great for so many reasons! I have used it for nouns and proper nouns. The students put a word that starts with each letter of the alphabet in the spaces. This would be cute to create an alphabet activity on fall words!

Theme Poem- In the theme poem app, there is a leaf that the students can write a poem about. It is very user friendly. The students just type their words, and it publishes the poem on the leaf.

Epic- Epic is a great place for the kids to read different books. You can look up books by a title or just search what they have. There are many fall books that your students can read.

Now it is time for your FREEBIE!

We are working on graphing this week and I love this Fall Favorites Graph! Click here to grab it for free or click on the picture. Happy Fall Friends!

Fall Favorites and Treats

I'm sorry whoever those old singers were who sang, "It's the most wonderful time of the year" at Christmas lied!  Fall is my absolute favorite and we are going to celebrate today!

Have you enjoyed our Fall Favorites and Freebies series so far?  I have loved it!

This is Meghan from Keeping Up with Mrs. Harris and I am excited to share a little bit of fall love with you!

As all good blog posts should start, let's start with desserts!  That's right!  Fall means flavored coffee and lots of yummy desserts in my house.  One of the Harris family's favorite fall desserts is an apple salad with Milky Way.

You must try this recipe!  Super simple and so delightfully yummy!  Mix together a half a cup of milk with a tub of cool whip.  Then chop up 4 apples and 3 Milky Way bars.  Mix in the pudding and then top off with caramel ice cream topping.  That's it!  And when I say it is yummy, trust me, because I will be sporting a sticky, caramel mustache as soon as apple picking season starts!

Anyone who knows me personally will tell you that I am the kind of gal that likes nice things and crafting inside all day.  However, as a mom of two boys, I do have to get out and dirty more than I would like to.  One of our favorite ways to make memories together in the fall is to go hiking and find waterfalls in our little Georgia mountains.  I always make sure to take a ton of pictures so we don't forget these times, but also to share in my classrooms.  You will be amazed at how many students have never seen a waterfall in real life.

The last few weeks, I have been working on new fall products to use with a few of my favorite fall books.  There are a ton of great ones out there.  Fall books that I share with my students is another favorite for this time of year.  Which leads me to my FALL FREEBIE!

Have you ever read the book Fall, Leaves, Fall with your students?  If not, you need to and after you read it, complete this fun activity with them!  This lapbook is going to make the book so engaging for your students.  To access this freebie, click here!

This is my favorite time of the year for so many reasons. The colors, the football, the crisp air are all on the top of my favorites for this time of year.  Anyone who has traveled the North Georgia Mountains knows how beautiful they are in the fall.  By far, my favorite childhood memory is of our family traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee in the fall.  I remember all the smells, sounds, and scenes from the ride through North Georgia. Check out the beauty of North Georgia here.

I get a fair bit of hazing for being such a big Gator fan... (see Exhibit A)
I need to come up with a clever way to get these jokers back! Any ideas?
Exhibit A....
Here is my freebie for you!
We have been learning about double digit addition
wait for it...
WITH REGROUPING!
That's right...
Eight weeks into second grade and we are learning addition with regrouping.
OY!
I made this cute little coloring sheet to help reinforce our learning!
